It's been a while...

I did 6 squares for the Doctors Without Borders quilt thing. They have finished blocking now, the ends have been weaved in, and they will be put into the post today! Yay!
Finally finished the show-off stranded socks. Yarn is Cherry Tree Hill. They are too baggy around the ankle for me though, and just generally a little too big, so they are going to be a Christmas present for someone. If anyone is making this sock, I would recommend picking up stitches for the gussett as a knit stitch rather than a purl, and knit into the back of the loop. It will leave a rather large hole otherwise.
Also on the needles: I finished the first Blackrose sock, and have yet to start the second. The sock yarn blankie hasn't grown, despite me having some wonderful sock yarn donated to me. I worked a few rows on Giselle, but I can't go too far otherwise Emily will never catch up :P The lace shawl hasn't been worked on. I have started a new project, its a shawl for my friend Luna. She asked if I could knit some shawls for her wedding (October 2011, so got a long time!), and I'm knitting a test one right now. I think its going ok, I think I understand what its asking for (its an old pattern, from like the 50s or something and American!). I've also bought some Cascade 220 in a dark grey to make the Dahlia top from Knitty. Yup, dark grey. Me. Yes.
I've been quite unwell lately, and it meant I couldn't go to Wonderwool Wales with Elizabeth and Helen. I was so upset, which is why I treated myself to the Cascade. They did buy me a gorgeous present of some sock yarn from the Natural Dye Studio (merino/tencel in a yummy lilac purple). I am forever grateful for this gorgeous yarn. I'll admit, I've been feeling quite yuck since before Christmas, it even got so bad I went to the emergency doctors. But nothing can be found, I got given some tablets, but they don't work anymore, and it just hurts all the time. I feel sick constantly, and have like a burning pain in my side. Its not a new pain, I've had it for 11 years. Sometimes its barely there and I don't notice it, and then there are times like now when all I do is want to curl up and cry the whole time. Meh. I have a doctors appointment for Monday, so I'm going to demand some help! Wonder how long it will take to see a gastroenterologist thing again. Meh some more.

I have been putting off my stranded socks, I think because the last time I tried doing the gusset I made a complete hash of it. I'm going to try it again with my 'Complete Knitting Bible' on my knee too.
Is it an intestinal thing that's causing the problem? It sounds terrible. I presume you've been given barium drinks followed by scans and all that sort of thing to check for ulcers etc. I know it's trite to say something like 'get better soon' when experience tells you it won't, but I hope it lets up for you at the very least!

I think the gussett for me would have been easier if I'd used markers to show where the beginning and the end of the gussett was. I know you can do it :D

I went though exactly the same procedure. horrible painful (I thought I was giving birth) colonscopy pre-night : pain-rush to toilets-liquify-come back feel ok now-ohh-pain-i think Im giving birth-run to toilets etc etc
they found I had a spasmed (constricted) colon and a bit of wall inflammation and the beginning of a hiatus hernia.
maybe it's something we eat, Elle. I'm keeping a food diary of everything I eat/drink.
however, a nutritionist wh's healed many people just told me it s the way we eat that causes many diseases. she told me not chewing food properly (ie watching tv or just thinking about something else than the actualf food when you eat it. or eating less than 3-4 hours before going to bed, without moving after) is blamed for HALF the Western diseases! people dont know but it all strarts from there : chewing!
also she told me nibbling is bad, ie we re supposed to eat only 3 times a day (sigh...), it's all about slow eating. no fruits/acidic stuff outide meals for us IBS sufferers. and sit upright, at a table, not on a sofa.
and last but not least, restricing yourself food you crave or like is not the answer, in fact it makes you "burn" inside, according to her. as a result after I went to see her I bought a bloody french cake and had an expresso and guess what, I didnt feel bad afterwards. (but she told me that normal wheat is just as toxic as poison ...it s been too transformed. also eat fruits/veg that dont come from abroad and are out of season, these food become acidic stuff in the body).
I found my colon intense pain in the lower left abdomen just stopped strangely after 2 weeks of hell, for no reason, no food change. it must have been an emotional thing coz the only thing that's changed is me: I'm making bludy exciting plans for the summer.

I love all the square-patchwork stuff, I think you should explore this further, make some outside art installation, I ve seen mind blowing textile art by some artists in Scotland who hanged them from tree branches or wove trees together.
the yellow showl is really well designed and made too. keep up the fantastic work, make it your job!
